A podcast is a sound file that is distributed over the Internet for playback on portable media players and personal computers. The word “podcast” is a mashup of the words “pod” and “broadcast”. The significance of “pod” refers to the Apple iPod, for which the first podcasting scripts were developed. You do not need an Apple iPod to listen to a podcast.

The overwhelming majority of listeners use ITunes or Juice to subscribe to the show. Once you have subscribed and when a new show is ready, your computer will be able to see it and download it automatically for you, leaving you to get on with things.
Podcasts are like radio programs that you can listen to on your computer. You can even download them to listen to later by putting them on a digital music device like an iPod or perhaps burning them on a plain old CD.
